Under Arm Sweating

Wednesday, April 15th, 2009

Dealing with under arm sweating can be very embarrassing.  Imagine standing in front of your co-workers giving a presentation only to realize you have huge spots under your arms.  Or maybe you’re in a wedding, and your light-colored bridesmaid’s dress is showing off just how much you sweat to everyone in attendance.  Under arm sweating can simply ruin events like these, but what can you do about it besides slather on more and more antiperspirant?  Well, there are a few things.

One thing many people do is get botox injections under their arms.  These injections do stop under arm sweating for a period of time, but the issue here is that you have to go back and have repeat injections done.  Think of botox as antiperspirant that lasts for several months.  It gets the job done, but it’s not really a long-term solution unless you don’t mind paying for it.

Recently, a new technology has been developed that looks much more promising.  It involves using a laser to actually remove the sweat glands under your arm pits.  Without these sweat glands, you won’t experience under arm sweating at all, and the procedure is relatively simple.  However, doctors do point out that without your sweat glands, your body is not able to cool itself as efficiently.  Because of that, many feel that this surgery should only be done on those who suffer from hyperhidrosis, or extreme sweating.

Dealing with Under Arm Sweat

Wednesday, April 8th, 2009

Under arm sweat can be one of the most embarrassing things ever.  Nothing makes you feel worse than realizing that you’re about to walk into a very important meeting with wet stains under your arms, and it seems like every business shirt shows off these stains.  For some, under arm sweat only occurs after a long workout or when walking outside during the hot summer months.  For others, especially those who suffer from hyperhidrosis, under arm sweat can be a common, and annoying, occurrence.

How can we deal with under arm sweat?  Well, antiperspirants are the first line of defense.  For many people, a good antiperspirant will control normal under arm sweating all day.  However, for those who suffer from excessive sweating, a standard antiperspirant may do nothing.  There are some high powered antiperspirants out there, but they can be hard to find, and for some, even these aren’t enough.

Botox injections under your arms can stop excessive sweating, but there are a few downsides to these treatments.  First, there’s the cost involved, plus you have to schedule visits with your doctor to get these injections.  Second, one injection isn’t going to do it—you have to have regular injections to truly stop the sweating.

Fortunately, there are several new options out there that seem to work much better.  One of these involves using a laser to actually remove the sweat glands.  Others involve blocking the pores or tricking the sweat glands into not producing sweat.  You can explore these options of stopping excessive under arm sweat with your doctor.
