Sweat Control: Don’t Get all Hot and Bothered by it

Everybody sweats.  It is essential to the body’s cooling system.  Some people sweat more than others though and it can become an embarrassing problem.  Finding a good sweat control solution is important to everybody; however, not every case is the same, which means the same solution may not be valid for all.

Most people will find themselves perspiring due to a hot day, exercise or perhaps even anxiety.  There are stages throughout a person’s life when they may experience excessive sweating due to an imbalance in hormones, such as puberty or menopause.  Alternatively, there are an unfortunate one or two per cent of people who suffer from a condition called hyperhidrosis whereby they sweat profusely at any time without any specific reason or cause.

Problem areas for sweat for anyone and everyone tend to be:

  • Armpits and torso
  • Face
  • Palms of hands
  • Soles of feet

There are different ways with which to approach each area, depending on the severity of the problem.

Armpits and torso

Many people choose to use an antiperspirant to control sweating of the torso.  Of the shop bought ones, some are better than others but for those who do not have a serious problem with sweating most should suffice.

For those who experience excessive sweating in this area, there are stronger antiperspirants containing larger qualities of the aluminum compound that actively combats the sweat.  These antiperspirants are designed for people who suffer from more prominent sweat problems than most.  Asking about such products in any good pharmacy will gleam results.

Face

People who suffer from particularly bad facial sweating can find the condition extremely embarrassing.  It is one of, if not the only place, that sweating cannot be hidden, and obviously the face is the first thing anybody sees when looking at a person.  It is therefore very common for people who sweat profusely around the face to withdraw themselves from social events and quite often have low levels of self-esteem.

The best course of action for people to seek with this problem is to see a doctor or dermatologist to inquire about any facial creams or powders in order to control the sweating.  Heavy moisturizer creams are not recommended as they can often exacerbate the situation, as well as making the face appear shinier.

Sweat ControlFor extreme cases, some people may resort to Botox injections.   The Botox inhibits the chemical reaction causing the sweat to be released from the glands.  This method is by no means permanent.  Patients should be aware that not only will they need to have repeat injections, but the cost is expensive.

Palms of hands

Sweaty palms can also be a social nightmare for people.  Holding hands with loved ones or shaking hands in the work place can become uncomfortable and encourage people to seek no kind of human interaction in case of such moments.

There are certain medications that will dehydrate the sweat glands, leaving them dry.  A popular form of such medication is Drysol.

There are also wipes containing alcohol or other astringent agents which serve to dry out the hands quickly for a short period of time.  These are a great temporary solution if somebody knows that they will have to shake other people’s hands for example in a meeting.  Using the wipes shortly before the meeting will calm the person considerably.

Soles of feet

For those who experience sweat on the soles of their feet, it can be particularly uncomfortable as the day goes on and may be embarrassing should they be required to remove their shoes for whatever reason if the sweat is accompanied by an unpleasant odor.

There are many antiperspirants which work well for such problems, although one of the best options in this situation is to apply powder to the soles of the feet.  The powder absorbs sweat as well as masking any unwanted odor.

For those who suffer from hyperhidrosis, again consultation with a doctor, Botox injections and Drysol are excellent ways to combat the problem.

Natural remedies and tips

There are certain measures that can be taken to reduce the amount of sweat produced from within the body.

Soaking teabags in water and applying the mixture to the needed areas is renowned for being a good natural remedy for sweat.  The particular kind of acid within the tea is an astringent just like alcohol and works to reduce the sweat.

Taking regular exercise will keep the body in shape.  By doing so, a person can avoid one of the main causes of sweat which is obesity.  In addition to this, stress levels are reduced significantly with regular exercise.  Sweat control can be approached from many different angles; the best results can often be seen with a combination of methods.
