It might sound radical, but there may actually be a surgical cure for hyperhidrosis, or excessive sweating. Those who suffer from the embarrassing issue have tried many different cures, but a simple 20 minute procedure might be the true cure. Video Assisted Thoracoscopic Sympathectomy (VATS) cuts down the amount of sweat someone with hyperhidrosis experiences to a tiny percentage of what it was. How does it work? Basically, it’s a minor surgical procedure that cuts the patient’s hyperactive sympathetic nerve chain. This nerve chain is responsible for stimulating the sweat glands in the armpits and hands. Some patients (around 15 percent) do end up experiencing what is called compensatory sweating on their chests or backs, but even those who do say it’s not as bad as their previous sweating experiences.
