Now we all sweat, and for various reasons.  Sometimes from working out, and other times from stress.  However, when it’s 30ºF or below, and the snow is falling, why would someone breakout into a massive sweat just to step outside to fetch the mail?  Can you imagine the discomfort and embarrassment that one with such a condition must endure when the attempting to complete but the smallest of tasks, wondering how to stop excessive sweating?  The wet underarms, the constant beading of the brow, and the unbearable clammy, sweaty palms are enough to make one ask, “What is wrong with me?”

The answer to this question is hyperhidrosis.  Hyperhidrosis is a condition that occurs when one’s sweat glands become overactive by even the smallest bit of effort exerted by the affected individual.  There are several things that one can do to alleviate some, if not all of the burdens bestowed by such a condition.  Yes, there are surgical interventions that can essentially, “fix” the problem, however these medical procedures are risky, and at times so unbearable, that one would rather just put up with the sweat.

The medical procedures that are most often performed on individuals with severe hyperhidrosis involve either one of two different operations.  The first is to sever and maneuver nerve endings between each of the shoulder blades and spinal column.  This type of procedure assists with the actual neurological corrections that need to be made so as to otherwise stop excessive sweating.  The other option is just as bold, and even more relentless during recovery, which is to fuse the major sweat glands under each arm, and along the upper ribcage, closed with laser incisions and the like.  This leaves a rather large welt under each arm that takes months to heal.

The unfortunate aspect about these costly procedures is that they don’t always work, having only a 50% rate of success.  Thus, this leads the soaking souls back to square one with much less available funding to invest in a more effective and cost-efficient home remedy that one may obtain at any pharmacy – drysol.  With an 80% success rate, drysol is not only more reliable, but tolerable as well (although there are some side effects such as temporary burning, itching, prickling or tingling in the treated areas).  Nevertheless, such occurrences of said side effects are minimal, though much easier to handle than surgical recovery.
