Excessive sweating is a problem more than a third of the population suffers from. This condition is basically brought about by genes, where someone from the sufferer’s family suffers from it. Besides genes, menopause, some medical problems like an overactive thyroid gland and antidepressant drugs can lead to excessive loss of sweat.
Sufferers of this condition get annoyed by sweat showing on their clothes like in armpits and the offensive smell of sweat. Basically, sweat is not smelly. It is because it causes a breeding ground for bacteria which breaks down the sweat to form fatty acids. And it is these fatty acids that have a pungent and irritating, stale smell.
It is the hands, feet, groin, face and armpits which cause excessive sweating problems. Sometimes, this abundance formation of sweat can lead to a condition called bromhidrosis where yeast and bacteria break down sweat. These areas can get white, crackled, wrinkled, red and inflamed and cause general itchiness and discomfort to the sufferers.
This is why it is important that you learn to control your sweat problem. Many people use deodorants to control sweat, thinking they are anti-perspirant. However not all deodorants are anti-perspirants, they don’t stop sweat but just disguise its odor. Choose anti-perspirants that have aluminum chloride in them, which closes pores to prevent sweat and thus keep you dry.
Avoid wearing clingy clothing as they exaggerate the condition. Instead, wear clothing that are loose and breathe well. It is also better to wear light colored clothes as they hide sweat stains. Dark clothes not only attract heat, but stains on them are easily visible.
Avoid drinking hot liquids as you tend to sweat more with them. Instead, drink as much water as possible to cure your sweating problems by not only lessening your sweat, but also by cooling your body.
