Excessive Sweating On Teens And Children

Tuesday, December 9th, 2008

Adults are not the only ones who may suffer from excessive sweating or hyperhidrosis. Even small kids and teens are prone to developing it. In fact, when kids and teens are struck with this disease, they tend to suffer its consequences the most.

Children aged seven years old and below suffering from hyperhidrosis may find it difficult to engage in physical activities like most kids do. Because of their sweaty palms, they may not be able to play baseball or basketball well. Their sweaty feet would prohibit them from playing soccer too. As such, they would simply sit in the bleachers and watch the game longingly every time kids their age hang out in the park to play.

Teens, on the other hand, have different sets of concerns. Teens are in the stage of their life where fashion and looking good is of utmost importance. As such, they play with their clothes, experiment with make ups, or style their hair well before going out with friends. If a teen, more particularly a girl, suffer from excessive sweating, her choice of clothes becomes limited. She can’t wear dark colored clothes or else sweat marks would show. All a teen with hyperhidrosis can wear are black clothes and clothes having a lighter shade. Anything else in between becomes improper.

For older teenagers, the problem keeps them away major social gatherings such as proms, parties, and high school dances. This is because crowded places tend to leave them all sweaty and embarrassed. Most male teenagers suffering from hyperhidrosis skip prom nights simply because they don’t want to get all sweaty in front of their partner. Or worse, drip sweat all over their date’s beautiful dress.

Sweating is a natural phenomenon. In fact, it is part of a healthy body’s process. However, if you tend to sweat excessively, problems such as these arise. There is little you can do to control sweat. And it isn’t right to blame it on hormones all the time. Hyperhidrosis is a medical concern that needs a doctor or a qualified expert’s assistance to revert.

Kids and teens suffering from excessive sweating may have to use mild antiperspirant creams and powders just to keep their bodies from sweating too much. However for kids, the problem is rarely on the armpits as beads of sweat forms profusely on the head, feet, and hands on them.

There are natural ways to prevent sweating. For kids and teen patients whose problems can’t be addressed by regular antiperspirant creams, a more intrusive medication maybe required. Examples of such medications are botox injections or iontophoresis. Parents should be well aware of the fact that excessive sweating is a major problem for your son and daughter at their young age. Acknowledging the problem would definitely help a lot. Your attempt to find the solution is comforting enough for them because they know that you understand what they’re going through.

Take your son or daughter to a doctor whose line of expertise is hyperhidrosis. Check whether your insurance policy would cover for the required treatment. This way, you can provide the care, attention, and treatment that your child needs.

When Does Sweating Become Excessive?

Thursday, December 4th, 2008

Sweating is a normal phenomenon. It is the body’s natural way of cooling itself up. However, excessive sweating isn’t normal. Sweating too much is a medical problem called hyperhidrosis. And it is a condition that has to be treated medically. But the big question is when does sweating become excessive? Where do you draw the line?

It should be okay if your body tends to get soaked with sweat during the hot weather. Nevertheless, continuous dripping of sweat in the colder weather is not normal. Sudden rise in your body temperature without any apparent reason is already a case for the doctor to diagnose. There could be something wrong in your body’s response system because it thinks it is feeling hot when in fact it isn’t.

The factors affecting hyperhidrosis can either be obvious or unexplained. Excessive sweating is mostly experienced by the obese because they may have too many fat cells underneath their skin that could be blocking in the body’s normal cooling process. Obese individuals tend to get sweaty with their every move. And that could be one of the reasons why they would rather be a couch potato – especially if they don’t like their body to sweat too much. However, they should take this fact as a motivation, knowing that they can easily lose weight if they are really up to it. With beads of sweat forming with their simplest move, it only shows that they can burn fat fast if only they try.

However, other factors to excessive sweating like genetics is a little too hard to resolve. In fact, there might not be a solution for such a problem. But then again, the advancement in today’s medical science is making sure that every health concern, regardless if it’s major or minor, can be treated accordingly. Right now, there are different ways to treat excessive sweating. There are even some surgical methods developed to cure it.

To know if you’re suffering from hyperhidrosis, it is best that you assess your condition well. If you are with somebody, try to compare your sweat with them. Is it relatively the same amount? Or is it obvious that you have excreted twice as much? Having a point of comparison is a good way to determine if your body sweat is within normal parameters or if it is already excessive.

Observing yourself is the best way to know if your have hyperhidrosis. Sweating for apparently no reason at all is a condition that you should be concerned about. Also, if you tend to sweat profusely due to anxiety, fear, and anger, then you do have some behavioral problems to address as well.

To know which method of treatment is right for you, you can consult a doctor or any qualified health expert. He should be able to tell you what causes your problem so you can try avoiding it. It is also possible for him to prescribe cures, both natural and commercial, to help you in your condition.

However, prevention is always the better solution for excessive sweating. People who are prone to sweating too much should make sure that they help improve their situations by wearing the right set of clothes every time. Taking a bath, practicing good hygiene, and using cooling devices to prevent sweating are good ways to prevent the problem.

Things To Do If You’re Sweating Excessively

Sunday, November 30th, 2008

Do you sweat if you’re nervous or if it’s really hot? Well, that should be normal. But if you sweat excessively even under acceptable circumstances, then you’ve got problems that need to be addressed immediately. However, avoiding excessive sweating is easier said than done. Oftentimes, even if you’ve done all the listed prevention techniques instructed by the experts, you still end up with a sweaty palm, armpit, or forehead.

So what would you do when perspiration is dripping off you uncontrollably? Here are good tips:

1. Always be ready with a handkerchief.

If you suffer from excessive sweating, never leave your home without several handkerchiefs stowed in your bag. If you can bring a small towel, that’s more preferable. Keep the hand towel always at your disposal. As for the handkerchief, always keep it in your pocket. Bring three to four hankies with you to work everyday and change to a fresh one whenever the other is wet. Wipe sweat immediately once you feel it coming out.

2. Get some fresh air.

You’ll know if beads of sweat are forming in your forehead. Once you feel it, try to go out of the room or building. Go to a spot where there’s lots of air and ventilation. Don’t go back inside unless you’re sure that your body has refreshed itself.

3. Take a quick shower.

If you’re at home and you’re sweating too much, take a lukewarm shower. This will relax your body and get rid of all your sweat too. If you’re outside or in the office, try to freshen up by sprinkling lukewarm water on your face.

4. Always bring an extra shirt.

underarm sweating must be the most embarrassing thing of all. If this is your problem, try to change your shirt in the washroom even before the marks set in. As much as possible, bring a shirt that is in the same color as the original one you’re wearing, so as not to put too much attention to your costume change.

5. Dust with a thick baby powder.

Powder helps absorb body sweat. Put a generous amount of it on the problem areas after freshening up. By doing so, you’ll be able to stay cool and dry for a longer period of time. Men might find this solution unmanly. But it is effective so it’s definitely worth a try.

6. Stop worrying.

Being anxious and nervous would only make things worse. So do yourself a favor and stop panicking. Take several deep breaths. Rub your forehead. Make all those bad ideas go away and your sweat won’t compound as much.

7. Be prepared.

Excessive sweating may come at the most inconvenient time. As such, you have to be prepared. Surely, you know what triggers you sweat. So make sure that you prevent them at all costs. If you can’t, you might as well bring with you everything that you need to ease all those sweat away.

Don’t live with excessive sweating if you can deal with it. Talk to a doctor about the solutions you can possibly undergo to address the problem.

How Can I Stop Sweating?

Tuesday, November 25th, 2008

Another article on the effects of excessive sweating and the ways of controlling it..

How Can I Stop Sweating?

How many times have you asked yourself “How can I stop sweating”? Excessive sweating can absolutely drive you mad in that it is a condition you have to deal with, day in and day out without fail. You may have your good days, but for the most part the sweating can be relentless. With how advanced today’s society is, there has to be a solution for such a simple thing as excess sweating, right? The good news is, yes, there is a solution, not just one, but several.

If you’re wondering how can I stop sweating, two ways to go about it are via topical treatments, or systemic treatments. Lets look at each.

Topical Treatments

For topical treatments, you’re essentially going to be using antiperspirants. Now antiperspirants use one key active ingredient and that is aluminum chloride. In over the counter antiperspirants, you’ll find this at 15-20% concentration. This will be good for reducing your sweating by at least 20%.

If that is not enough for you, you’ll want to go down the route of a prescription antiperspirant. Drysol is a popular choice and has an aluminum chloride concentration of about 30%. This should be helpful for those with tougher cases.

Systemic Treatments

If you’re still thinking to yourself how can I stop sweating after trying that out, you can have a look into systemic treatments. What are systemic treatments? They are oral medications such as beta blockers, anticholinergics, sedatives and tranquilizers. Sedatives and tranquilizers are more useful for stress related sweating, whereas anticholinergics and beta blockers would be used for all other cases.

The only downside to taking pills is the many adverse side effects, some of which appear before you even see any sweating relief! You can experience dry mouth, visual symptoms, drowsiness and several other issues. Make sure you’ve tried other options before trying these.

New Cure For Excessive Sweating

Thursday, November 20th, 2008

New Cure for Excessive Sweating Could Boost Your Work Productivity
A new study has confirmed what has already long been considered truth by many – that suffering from excessive sweating can negatively impact a person’s work performance.

According to the International Hyperhidrosis Society, a recent study presented at the American Academy of Dermatology Annual Meeting in San Francisco indicates that employees suffering from hyperhidrosis “were limited in performing physically demanding tasks 25 of the time, in time management 17 of the time.”

The study goes on to say that “these rates of workplace limitations are similar to those experienced by workers suffering from depression, osteoarthritis, and rheumatoid arthritis.” The study estimated overall work productivity loss due to hyperhidrosis is “4.9 of those who have tried it, Ramsey said.

Ramsey’s process is made up of three simple steps, takes less than 30 seconds a day to complete and relies on readily available and inexpensive products.

Ramsey says that the process is easy to incorporate into your morning or evening routine, and guarantees that it will keep a person’s underarm sweat problem away for the rest of their life!

Like many others with hyperhidrosis, Ramsey first began suffering from it in high school and over the years has tried just about every treatment he could think of to get rid of it or at least keep it under control: from using dozens of different antiperspirants to applying antiperspirants several times a day to wearing undershirts to soak up the sweat before it reached his outer shirt to changing clothes several times a day to holding his arms up in the car so that they were aligned with the air conditioner vents to using a device that pushes electrical currents through the skin and much, much more.

‘At the time that I came up with this cure, I was working in an office eight to ten hours a day where I was surrounded by and interacted with colleagues continuously,’ Ramsey said. ‘In this environment, I was constantly concerned about my underarms — a distraction that caused me to lose hours of productivity every week. My self-esteem and self-confidence, which were already low, plummeted even further.’

Ramsey went on to say. ‘After years of pain and struggle, using the method I created I was able to cure my excessive sweat problem naturally in just two weeks, and was finally able to start living worry-free again.’

‘This technique has proven to be highly practical, safe and effective and it’s worked quickly for me and for hundreds of other people who have read my book and tried it,’ Ramsey said.

3 Unorthodox Ways To Stop Sweating Dead In It’s Tracks!

3 Unorthodox Ways To Stop Sweating Dead In It’s Tracks!

What I’m going to go into here are some unorthodox approaches in helping you reduce or prevent sweating as much as possible. When you search the internet for ways to stop sweating, you will come across many of the same answers, this is why I’ve done some digging and found some new and interesting approaches which may be of benefit to you. Have a read through and see what you can put to use in your life right now.

Swim/Sauna/Bathe

What I’m about to tell you comes from personal experience. I enjoy swimming and what I like to do after a good swim is hit the sauna. It’s really therapeutic especially after a grueling swimming session and yes of course you sweat a lot here. I then follow this up with a bath before heading out of the fitness center, but what I notice is that following this routine I have significantly reduced sweating. Like I said, these are unorthodox ways to stop sweating, but this method works for me. Perhaps it’s the chlorine in the water, or the high temperature steam in the sauna, what matters is the end result is reduced sweating.

Eat the Right Foods

If you get in the habit of eating grapes or drinking grape juice, this fruit has been known to have cooling properties which help your body regulate it’s temperature and thus sweat less. Also you want to avoid spicy/hot foods as much as possible as eating these on a regular basis will aggravate your sweat. This is one of the ways to stop sweating that is often overlooked, especially by those who have a penchant for Indian food, or other spicy dishes.

Make Sure you Get Your 8 Hours

You wouldn’t think this would be one of the ways to stop sweating, however try this out. If you tend to get by on 5, 6 or 7 hours of sleep, try getting a good 8 hours. There is something about having a regular sleeping pattern in place which helps to reduce sweating. I believe it to be in part due to reduced stress and irritability from lack of sleep.

Is Sweating A Sign Of High Blood Pressure?

Wednesday, October 15th, 2008

We all know that excessive sweating causes problems and  embarrassment but could it also be the sign of high blood pressure? Read on…

Is Sweating A Sign Of High Blood Pressure?

Do you worry that sweating is a sign of high blood pressure? In most cases the symptoms of high blood pressure, also known as hypertenstion, can be difficult to see. It’s often called the ‘silent killer’ because it usually has NO symptoms. The only way to really know whether you have high blood pressure or not is to go to your doctor and have your blood pressure checked. In some cases the symptoms of high blood pressure go unnoticed because they can be considered part of everyday life. Some symptoms that you may associate with possible high blood pressure are continued fatigue, headaches, and a ringing in your ears known as tinnitus. But in most cases there are very few symptoms of high blood pressure, and if your doctor doesn’t look for it, he or she may not find it.

The scary thing about any symptoms of high blood pressure is that they usually do not show until it is too late to do anything about them. When high blood pressure reaches high rates it is referred to as accelerated hypertension. Even at this stage symptoms may not show until it starts shutting down internal organs and the patient begins to enter a dangerous stage of the disease. If left untreated, high blood pressure can begin to affect the brain and even start causing pressure within your skull, which can be fatal.

If high blood pressure runs in your family or if you have any feeling that you may have blood pressure, you should see your doctor immediately. The sooner the condition is diagnosed, the better. Your doctor will do a simple test and from there you can map out a plan to combat this condition.

Botox Perspiration Treatment for excessive sweating

Thursday, October 2nd, 2008

Is Botox treatment the way to go for excessive sweating problems? Have a read and see what you think..

Botox Perspiration Treatment for excessive sweating

Botox treatment for perspiration is a relatively new way to cure excessive sweating. Before you can even gain access to this treatment you will have seen your doctor and tried many of the traditional remedies and home cures.

Botox perspiration treatment is not a fashion accessory for those who can afford it although it can be used like this for people overtaken by our celebrity culture. For people who really suffer the problem of too much sweat this treatment is serious and can have great benefits for them in their daily lives.

Is this sweat treatment suitable for everybody?

There are people who cannot have this treatment due to other illness and medical conditions such as pregnancy and some types of diabetes. This is why the program has to be tightly supervised.

How Does Botox Cure Excessive Perspiration?

By having Botox Injections the underarm area is made less reactive to the natural tendency to sweat. It reduces nerve activity in the sweat glands. The treatment is done by injection and it is highly critical in its execution. It has to be injected into the correct depth under the skin to avoid complications. The treatment is applied directly to the affected area – most commonly under the armpits. The treatment kicks in after a few days and lasts for up to a year before you need to have the treatment again.

There are other natural cures for sweating that do not require injections. You can follow a program of diet control and washing techniques using easily found ingredients to stop excessive sweat. I have found that this method works really well and wouldn’t consider the botox solution for me
Howard Jones writes on the subject of excessive sweating which many people suffer from but few are prepared to openly discuss. http://www.end-sweating.com

The treatment kicks in after a few days and lasts for up to a year before you need to have the treatment again. As well as this method of curing oversweating there are special operations but these are not widely available and the success of them is not guaranteed. You could end up going through a lot of pain and heartache with not results

There are other natural cures for sweating that do not require injections. You can follow a program of diet control and washing techniques using easily found ingredients to stop excessive sweat. I have found that this method works really well and wouldn’t consider the botox solution for me.

How To Stop Sweating With Surgery

Tuesday, September 30th, 2008

Some people opt for surgery when it comes to their excessive sweating problems. if you are that way inclined then read on…

How To Stop Sweating With Surgery

Hyperhidrosis is one of the most embarrassing conditions to have. It affects people both physically and mentally. Luckily the advances of medicine has helped thousands of people with a surgery capable of ending this condition for good.

Excessive sweating, a condition medically known as hyperhidrosis is an embarrassing thing. Patients who suffer from this condition have sweat dripping out of their faces, hands, armpits or feet – literally. Although some type of sweating can be attributed to psychological factors such as anxiety or stress-levels there is other type of hyperhidrosis which its exact causes are unknown. This generates frustration and embarrassment in people, but there is a choice thanks to the advance of medicine, the ETS.

ETS stands for Endoscopic Thoracic Sympathectomy, and this is a surgery that consists on manipulating the sympathetic chain that triggers sweating. You see, when you have hyperhidrosis of any kind, your glands are overactive, making you sweat way more than you need.

During this surgery, you are put under general anesthesia and the doctor inserts into you body small instruments through a tiny incision, and then manipulates your sympathectomy chain from the outside. This is the reason why patients can walk out of the hospital just hours after the surgery has been performed, but still your body has to learn to adapt to the new changes and this adaptive process may take a week.

The ETS is as we speak, the most effective way to treat hyperhidrosis. Success rates are between 85% to 95% and the patients end up relived and happy. Mostly because hyperhidrosis is a condition that carries a social stigma with it, and parts you from society. There could be some minor effects because of the surgery (some patients say they start sweating on other places like in the back), but people consider them minor compared to the trauma of having wet hands, feet or armpits all the time.

If you have hyperhidrosis, you too can benefit yourself from this surgery. Be sure to consult with your doctor, and he’ll fill you on all the details for the ETS, even its risk and side effects.
